Abe Hughes visits construction progress at Tri-County

Abe Hughes, New Holland Vice President of New Holland Agriculture in North America visited the New Holland Tri-County dealership in Bluffton, IN on April 29.
Mr. Hughes discussed company product and marketing plans and got input on a wide range of topics dealing with markets, products, training and more.
Construction on the new shop had begun a week earlier and Mr. Hughes was given information about what we look to accomplish with our expansion at Bluffton.

Having corporate leadership come to visit and get hands-on information about the grass-root marketing matters is helpful for customers, dealers and the company and we look forward to future visits at our locations from New Holland management.

Deere runs with Exhaust Gas Recirculation + DEF

The Deere high horsepower tractors use CEGR and DEF technology to meet Tier IVb emission levels. Using two systems to accomplish what New Holland accomplishes with DEF technology only greatly increases complexity and cost for the owner throughout the life of the tractor as well as higher operating costs on fuel. The CEGR technology adds a second turbo charger (NH uses one, Deere uses compound (2) turbo chargers), a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (non on New Holland tractors), a Diesel Particulate Filter (none on New Holland tractors), and an Exhaust Gas Cooler (New Holland has none) in order to cool the recirculated air and a larger Air-To-Air Intercooler than New Holland uses because the hot recirculated air has to be cooled.

The DEF equipment on the Deere tractor has similar components as New Holland’s DEF equipment. All of the Deere CEGR equipment is ‘extra’ machinery that the New Holland owner doesn’t need to buy or maintain:

One might ask why New Holland uses CEGR technology on smaller tractors if it isn’t a good idea? Fact is, CEGR has benefits in small engine applications simply because small engines use a fraction of the air that larger tractors use and typically, smaller tractors don’t have constant high engine loads typical of high horsepower tractors’ applications. The lower combustion temperatures needed for CEGR to meet emission levels occurs more naturally in the smaller tractor.

The use of dual technologies (DEF plus CEGR) in high horsepower Deere tractors presents a huge liability for the owner throughout the life of the tractor that the New Holland single technology (DEF only) doesn’t provide to the New Holland owner. Deere points out that the DEF use will be lower because of the dual technology. While this remains to be seen in real world use, we would point out that diesel currently sells for about $4.00 per gallon whereas our Open House price on DEF was $1.39 per gallon.

Nebraska tests on Deere’s Tier IVa tractors showed higher diesel use than the New Holland Tier Iva tractors and the Deere tractors didn’t meet Deere’s advertised horsepower levels OR torque rise. See Nebraska tests 1990 and 1991 attached:

Fiat Powertrain Finding Surprising Customers for New Engines

Every year the technology levels of the Agricultural Industry increase. Equipment you depend upon to protect your family farm’s interest needs to be best-in-class or your farm suffers. In 1996 Fiat purchased New Holland from Ford Motor Company and New Holland experienced excellent years on a global basis as the Fiat engineering benefits brought immediate positive results. Today the line of equipment offered by New Holland as part of the Fiat-owned CNH division is the most technologically advanced line we’ve ever offered. The heart of any equipment line is the engine and we offer the Fiat Powertrain Technologies engines at our Ag Technology company and in all of the self-propelled farm equipment we sell in the New Holland brand.

We knew our engines had incorporated the best solution to meet Tier IV emission levels and we knew that our fuel economy was better than the competition from the Nebraska tests.
The superiority of the FPT engine is now so high that virtually all of New Holland’s competitors are using them for power. The attached article from Ag Intelligence magazine details the latest developments in engine use in the Ag sector. As you consider your current and future powered equipment for your farm, you should be aware that some engines use two technologies (Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Diesel Exhaust Fluid) to meet emission standards. The attached article speaks to the superior FPT design which uses a single DEF system and meets the latest emission standars.

At New Holland Rochester, we’re proud to be a part of Fiat Industrial. Its engineering has revived Chrysler and saved tens of thousands of American jobs and paid back every dollar of government help Chrysler had been given before Fiat took on the Chrysler challenge. We have seen first-hand the positive benefits the financial and engineering strength Fiat has brought to the New Holland brand. We look forward to continuing to offer the best engineered products in the Ag business to our customers.

Jim Straeter’s Cornrower receives Agritechnica award in Germany!

Agritechnica is by far the largest and most prestigious indoor farm equipment show on the globe and is held every two years in Hannover, Germany. At each show, the Innovation Committee awards medals to the most important and innovative inventions in agricultural machinery that have been developed in the two years since the last show.

Over 400 entries from around the globe were submitted, and a total of 37 medals (four gold, 33 silver) were awarded.  New Holland submitted the Cornrower system, patented and developed by Jim Straeter of New Holland Rochester, for an award.  The committee thought the Cornrower was important enough to award a Silver Medal at the show for the Cornrower.
